New Year Waste Resolutions

We have put together some top tips to help you reduce the amount you recycle this year!

By following some of these tips this will help reduce the amount you pay on your annual waste bill and help you become more environmentally sustainable.

We are all responsible for disposing of our waste in the correct manner!

Change starts with you!

  1. Doing a clear out, getting rid of some old clothes or shoes, these are items that should not be put into your recycling bin, instead put all these items into a bag and bring them to a local charity shop or dedicated clothes bank. There is also excellent sites to sell your clothes or items you no longer need and a nifty way to get some extra cash in January! Don’t forget to keep some old rags for cleaning around the house instead of paper towels ect.
  2. Make your own non-toxic household cleaners to avoid all chemicals and throwaway plastic bottle. Put your homemade cleaners in a recycled glass vinegar bottle or reusable spray nozzle bottle. Baking soda is an excellent cupboard staple, it has proven virus- killing abilities that effectively cleans deodorizes, brightens and cuts through grease and grime on surfaces.
  3. Food waste- do not put compostable food materials into your recycling bin, these materials should be placed into your compost bin. We know January can be a tough month cashflow wise and we all want to eat more healthy so consider bringing your own lunch to work or school in a reusable container or lunchbox.
  4. Liquid containers – ensure to empty all containers that hold liquids before recycling, wash and recycle where possible, by ensuring no liquids are going into your waste bin this should help with the amount of weight going into your mixed waste bin and always use a reusable water bottle!
  5. Be sure to bring your own reusable bags when shopping.
  6. Remove inner packing and flatten cardboard containers to help with the recycling process and to save space in your bin.
